Geezer Butler has recently shared fresh insight into Tony Iommi’s long-awaited solo album, offering new details during a Q&A appearance at Steel City Con.
While answering a question about whether he might collaborate again with any surviving members of Black Sabbath’s original lineup, Butler revealed updates on Iommi’s progress and plans for the record. “I was actually gonna do some… Tony [Iommi] has got this great album that he is doing right at the moment,” Butler explained. “He’s just in the process — I think he’s in the process of mixing it right now, so it should be out sometime [in 2026].”
He went on to discuss the album’s vocalist and the possibility of his own participation on the project. “He’s got this great singer from Sweden on it,” Butler added. “And he wanted me to do three bass tracks, but he wanted me to do them in England, and I can’t go to England until June [of 2026]. So if he can hang on that long, I might collaborate with him back in June, if he can wait that long.”
Butler’s comments indicate that Iommi’s solo effort is close to completion, with mixing already underway. While Butler’s involvement remains uncertain, it appears possible if scheduling issues can be resolved.
These remarks mirror statements Iommi has made recently regarding the album’s progress and release window. In a New Year’s message cited by Blabbermouth, Iommi confidently stated that “in 2026 I shall have *definitely, definitely* my solo album out.” His wording underscored a firm commitment to finally releasing the project.
The forthcoming album will be Iommi’s third solo release, following Iommi in 2000 and Fused in 2005, as noted by Metal Injection. Given the long gap between solo records, anticipation has been steadily building among fans. Ultimate Guitar has also reported that Iommi has been reflecting on what he called a “bittersweet year” for Black Sabbath while working on the album, tying its creation to broader reflections on the band’s legacy.
The identity of the Swedish singer remains undisclosed, adding another layer of intrigue to the project. With Iommi known for collaborating with a range of vocalists throughout his solo career, fans are eager to learn more. As the album moves through its final stages, additional details about the lineup and musical direction are expected to surface ahead of its planned 2026 release.
