SOiL has been part of the alternative metal scene since 1997, and they gained mainstream success in the early 2000s. Their sound is influenced by groove metal and post-grunge. They went through lineup changes, label shifts, and long gaps between releases, but they remain an active band. Fans wonder why the band hasn’t released new material in years and if they will ever return with a new album. Here is the answer.
SOiL’s Career Highlights

According to the biography on their official website, SOiL gained mainstream recognition with their 2001 album ‘Scars,’ which featured hit songs like ‘Halo’ and ‘Unreal.’ Their next album, ‘Redefine’ (2004), followed a similar path but was their last with frontman Ryan McCombs, who left later that year.
After McCombs’ departure, SOiL moved to independent labels and brought in A.J. Cavalier as their vocalist. They released ‘True Self’ (2006) and ‘Picture Perfect’ (2009) before reuniting with McCombs in 2011. In 2013, they released their last full-length album, ‘Whole,’ and it became their first original work with McCombs since his return.
Since then, SOiL continued to tour and release compilations, including ‘Restoration’ (2023), which features re-recordings of their biggest hits.
What Happened to SOiL?

SOiL has not released a new studio album since 2013. They continue to perform live, especially in Europe. In 2024, they were booked for major festivals like Wacken Open Air (Germany), Brutal Assault Fest (Czech Republic), and Alcatraz Fest (Belgium).
The band also announced a special U.K. tour in November 2024, where they performed ‘Scars’ in full for the first time. This tour will include (HED) P.E., Nonpoint, and The Union Underground as supporting acts (Blabbermouth).
Meanwhile, frontman Ryan McCombs has been balancing his role in SOiL with his return to Drowning Pool, which he rejoined in March 2023. He performed shows with both bands, so he’s able to split time between projects.
Will SOiL Release a New Album?

If you have questions about new music from SOiL, here are the latest details. In a 2024 interview at Wacken Open Air, bassist Tim King directly addressed this, saying, “We are very, very, very long overdue for new material, which me and Ryan [McCombs] will not disagree with and we’ll talk about all day long. The weird thing about that is we all live in very different areas. I’m not gonna make excuses at this point. We need to do new material. Long story short, we’re not gonna release anything else until it’s something new, because the fans deserve that. We’ve waited long enough. We’re long overdue. When the time comes that we have it ready to go, we’ll do it. But we have really no excuses for it other than the fact that we suck. [laughs]”
SOiL members are interested in recording new material, but logistical challenges, including distance between band members, slowed the process. For now, they continue to tour and celebrate their past music, but there is no confirmed release date for a new album.
SOiL remains an active touring band, but whether they will return with new music remains uncertain.
