James Hetfield Calls Out ‘Other Entertainers’ For Pushing Political Agendas: “Metallica’s Agenda Is Pure Metal”

James Hetfield recently commented on other entertainers who use their platform to push political agendas, addressing the issue during a recent concert in a video shared on YouTube.

The statement focused on Hetfield’s gratitude to the fans and his insistence that Metallica’s only agenda is to provide an escape through heavy music.

“Unless you live in Vegas, you’ve come a long way to spend some time with Metallica,” Hetfield said. “We’re grateful for that — your travels, the money you spend, the time it took, thanks for coming to celebrate with us.”

He then contrasted Metallica’s approach with that of other performers who attempt to influence their audiences.

“I just gotta say, Metallica is not here, like some other entertainers, to influence you with their bullshit, okay?” Hetfield continued. “We are here… no bullshit… we’re here to forget about all the outside shit, okay? Metallica’s agenda is love, energy and heavy music, baby!”

This comment came during the band’s show at the Las Vegas Sphere on October 10. Further updates may follow.

The remarks landed in the middle of a busy stretch for the band, and they echo positions Metallica has held for years — both about politics and about the themes running through its own catalog.

The October 10 show was part of Metallica’s Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere, which opened with performances on October 1 and 3, 2026. The residency follows the band’s “No Repeat Weekend” format, with completely different set lists for the Thursday and Saturday shows of each pair.

The run has since expanded well beyond its original dates. The schedule now totals 24 performances, with 12 shows across October and November 2026 and another 12 in February and March 2027.

Hetfield has also addressed the subject of politics directly in the past. In a 2017 interview, he explained that he prefers to keep his personal views to himself, saying, “My opinion stays with me,” and adding, “I hate politics. I don’t wanna talk about politics. It’s not important to me. What’s important to me is connecting people with music.”

Metallica’s catalog, however, has long explored political and social terrain without turning the stage into a campaign platform. Tracks such as “…And Justice for All” and “One” deal with corruption, institutional failure, war and its human cost, while later material continued to examine conflict and social division across albums including Hardwired… to Self-Destruct.
