SIXX:A.M. vocalist James Michael recently announced his new band, Lowlight Revelry, and the release of their debut album, No Time For Shooting Stars, on Instagram. His SIXX:A.M. bandmates, Nikki Sixx and DJ Ashba, reacted to the announcement as their main band remains on hiatus.

In his announcement, James Michael shared his excitement about the new project and the release of the album. “A new chapter,” Michael said. “A new band. A new album. LOWLIGHT REVELRY. ‘No Time For Shooting Stars’ Out now.”

Following the announcement, bassist Nikki Sixx congratulated Michael on the new venture. “Can’t wait to dig in,” Sixx commented. “Congratulations.”

Guitarist DJ Ashba also expressed his support for Michael’s new project. “So proud of you, brother,” Ashba said. “Can’t wait to take a listen.”

This support comes as SIXX:A.M. remains on an indefinite hiatus. Let’s see what comes next for the musicians.

The warm reactions from Sixx and Ashba are not surprising, given how closely the three musicians have worked together over the years. SIXX:A.M. has long been a shared project rather than a solo effort, and the bond between its members has shaped both the band’s sound and its history. Michael’s new chapter now arrives with the backing of the same two players who helped build that story from the start.

SIXX:A.M. was formed in 2007 by Nikki Sixx, James Michael, and DJ Ashba to create a companion soundtrack for Sixx’s memoir The Heroin Diaries. The band went on to build a five-album catalog that includes The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack (2007), This Is Gonna Hurt (2011), Modern Vintage (2014), and the two 2016 releases Prayers for the Damned and Prayers for the Blessed.

That catalog explains part of the anticipation surrounding Michael’s new material. Lowlight Revelry marks his latest musical project following SIXX:A.M., and its debut album centers on themes of time, change, and personal reflection rather than a simple return to past form. No Time For Shooting Stars is a reflection on the fleeting nature of life, the choices we make, and the importance of making the most of the time available.

The timing of the release also ties directly to the status of SIXX:A.M. itself. The band announced its hiatus in 2021 and has not returned to active recording or touring since, leaving each member free to pursue separate projects. Michael has been upfront about where things stand and has not suggested any imminent reunion.

“We don’t have anything planned and I’m okay with that,” Michael said in a 2025 interview with Blabbermouth, describing the band’s current lack of plans.

For now, that leaves Lowlight Revelry as the focus. Sixx and Ashba have offered their congratulations, and the album is out now, with no indication of what the future holds for SIXX:A.M. beyond its ongoing hiatus.
