Joe Duplantier Doesn’t Mind Opening For Korn Despite Gojira’s Rising Fame

In a new interview with Loudwire Nights, Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier shared his thoughts on touring with Korn. Gojira’s fame has been rising since their performance at the Olympics. However, even after their fame, Duplantier doesn’t mind they are opening for the nu-metal band.

“It’s great. We are happy people,” the singer said when asked about the tour. “Of course, we like to headline but we love to take on tours with friends with the bands that inspired us in the first place like Korn for example. We come from death metal, don’t get me wrong, but Korn was somewhere in the picture at some point. We were listening closely while they were being very inventive and original. When the first album came out [I was like,] ‘Whaaat? What is this?'”

“This is something else. My death metal self back in the day was not gonna try to copy them but definitely respected analyzed and listened to their music,” he admitted. “Going on tour with Korn is just… We’re super happy. It doesn’t matter whether we’re opening or closing, at the end of the day we’re traveling together and playing the music.”

“We opened for bands so many times and we’re entering this era now where we’re starting to headline a little more, we have a strong density, we have more followers. People want us to headline after the full experience. But we’re doing our best and Korn is giving us enough space and time to do our thing,” Duplantier added.

Earlier this year, Korn announced a stadium show in Los Angeles to mark the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut album. They later teased the news for days and fans thought new music would be coming. The announcement later turned out to be Korn’s tour with support from Gojira and Spiritbox.

The tour will start on September 12 at Midflorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa and will travel across the country before ending in St. Paul, MN at Xcel Energy Center on October 27.

In other news, Gojira’s performance at the Olympics has just been released on streaming platforms. You can now hear it more clearly and with no commentators.
