Former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon has addressed fan expectations in a recent interview with Blitzed Magazine. The punk icon shared his perspective on fans who expect him to maintain a specific musical direction.
“They’ll grab hold of you, and they won’t let go of that vision of you. You can’t live your life according to somebody else’s illusions about you,” Lydon stated. “You’ve got to be true to yourself.”
“For me, I’ve always declared I had a vast, vast record collection of music, so I was influenced in many different directions and some of them completely contradictory to each other,” he continued. “And so I’d say to those that were still expecting ‘Never Mind the Bollocks Part 2′ – f*ck off you idiot. What are you not listening to?”
Lydon’s firm stance against fan expectations emerges amid broader tensions surrounding the Sex Pistols’ legacy.
Recent Band Conflicts

In a statement featured on Loudwire, Lydon voiced his anger about the Sex Pistols touring without him. He believes these performances would diminish the band’s legacy.
The vocalist emphasized his foundational role in the band. He has labeled the current performances as ‘karaoke,’ pointing to his contributions in writing the songs and creating their image.
Current Musical Direction

Coverage from Sun-13 highlights Lydon’s ongoing work with Public Image Limited (PiL). This project emerged after his departure from the Sex Pistols.
The current PiL lineup operates with mutual respect. Members work together without ego conflicts, creating a productive creative environment.
Artistic Philosophy
