Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci shared his thoughts about Mike Portnoy’s return in an interview with Guitar Interactive Magazine. The discussion focused on the band’s upcoming 40th anniversary tour and their reunion with original drummer Mike Portnoy.
“You know, it’s hard to say. You know, it’s not something that you really predict or plan or whatever. It was sort of like everything aligned. The stars aligned and it was the right time to do it,” Petrucci explained.
“We’re also at the point where, this is it hurts me to say in some ways. And it’s also fun to say 40th anniversary,” he continued. “But no, we’re actually really, really fortunate to have a career that that long. And so this is the 40th anniversary tour. So there’s so many milestones. You know, Mike returning the first record with him in many, many years and then celebrating the 40th anniversary. So it’s been incredible.”
The reunion with Portnoy represents a significant milestone for Dream Theater. This timing aligns with several major developments in the band’s journey.
