Stephen Pearcy doesn’t mind being associated with ‘hair metal.’

“The term ‘Hair Metal’? It doesn’t bother me in the least, although it does some of the peers,” the Ratt singer wrote in a recent tweet. “‘Hair Metal’, think about it really. I’ll embrace the tag 40 years later. Hey, it identifies you into the ’80s genre forever.”

“Nah, I would never embrace the term ‘hair metal’ as it was specifically created to marginalize an entire genre of really talented musicians. It’s all about the music, not the hair,” a user wrote in their reply to the rocker.

Pearcy responded back, “If you’re doing business are you not going to be played on Hair Nation or do shows with the term Hair because of the term. I’m not bothered because we created Ratt n’ Roll, and that is ours regardless of the association. To be clear it’s all Rock Music unless you’re needing it…”

The frontman finds the music of the ’80s really special. “Our shows now have parents and their kids. Their kids are doing it right, okay? Introducing them because there’s a lot of sh*t out there it’s like thrown out there if it sticks,” Pearcy recently told 95.5 KLOS.

Then, he talked about the ’80s, “But this kind of music… 80s music is really a special thing, not because we were like these guys or 4Runner guys whatever. I mean the real sh*t. We came from the strip. There’s nothing like it ever and there never will be again.”

The musician believes ’80s music was better but thinks bands from that era should respect each other and let go of old grudges. “Life’s short, man, and a lot of us are dropping like flies. And you’ve gotta remember, this is 40 years later. The ones that are still standing should give respect to one another,” said Stephen in a separate interview.

Pearcy is currently on the road for his Back in the Cellar tour. He will perform in St. Charles, Louisville, Las Vegas and Branson in the coming days.
