Ted Nugent wants to confront the comedians who claim they don’t know him.
On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, comedians Yannis Pappas and Chris Distefano said they had never heard of Nugent. Rogan played his famous song ‘Stranglehold,’ but they still didn’t recognize it.
When Nugent started singing, Distefano said he had heard the song before. Ted shared a clip of the podcast and captioned it, “Don’t worry, Joe will educate you.”
“Who are these guys? Someone tag them,” Nugent also commented. Many fans tagged Pappas and Distefano in response. One fan wrote, “How does anyone not know this song or Ted Nugent?”
Another fan said, “JOE, you are the MAN!! Educate this uneducated generation that grew up listening to pop crap.” Someone else commented, “Wow! What planet are those guys from?”
‘Stranglehold’ is one of Nugent’s most iconic songs. In a 2022 episode of The Nightly Nuge, the rock legend shared the history behind the track. He explained, “It actually was 1967 when I first did the ‘Stranglehold’ lick. I just got off stage at the Grande Ballroom, and I got was with Steve Booker and John Souther. We jammed in a church, and I plugged into the amp they had with one of my Byrdlands.”
He added, “It was in October, and I had been hunting that weekend. So I lived that primal scream, that tooth, fang, and law, down to earth, grounded, the celebration of God’s miraculous creation, hands-on with my bow and arrow at Manistee National Forest, 1967. I’ve been doing that my whole life, including this morning.”
“When I grabbed the guitar, Steve Booker, incredible virtuoso, and John Souther, incredible virtuoso, they said, ‘Well, what do you want to play? Will we play ‘Johnny B. Goode,’ a Beatles song, a Rolling Stones song, or a Little Richard song? But I happen to go with ‘Stranglehold,'” Nugent also shared at the time.
‘Stranglehold’ appeared on Nugent’s 1975 debut album, with Derek St. Holmes on vocals. Ted also sings the verse, “Sometimes you wanna get higher.”
