MGMT’s 2007 song ‘Kids’ has a music video that raised some concern among fans. In the music video, it shows a child’s emotional reactions to strange encounters, and most of the time, he seems to be frightened.
Years later, fans are still asking how the kid has been doing today. So, what’s the truth about it?
The Baby’s Role In The Music Video

The music video for the song was released ten monts after it was released as a single. In the music video, the baby is at the center of the story, exploring themes of childhood, growth, and the challenges of life. The video presents a journey where the baby is surrounded by various strange and sometimes frightening creatures, reflecting the child’s imagination.
Was The Baby Actually Scared?

While it looks like the child was terrified of the creatures around him in the music video, he was never scared. A behind the scenes video released later shows how the creatures were created and how the baby interacted with them.
A fan once said they were on the set during the making of the music video and also confirmed that the baby wasn’t afraid. “Almost 11 years after that video was publicly seen and people still question the sanity of the child’s parent and MGMT. Cmon now, Zachary was only 18 months old and was crying because he was hungry, not because he was scared. His mom made sure he became acquainted with the ‘monsters’ on set. I don’t think he has any mental issues from the video experience at all. I don’t think filming even took that long on his part.”
MGMT’s Response

On their official website, MGMT explained how the idea came about. “This is the first song we ever wrote, on a cold day in February way back in 2003. The idea for the video was born about a year ago, at a mock-Italian cafe on Ninth Avenue in bustling Manhattan. ‘Kids’ has proven to be some kind of monster with a life of its own, both as an albatross and a plate of mac and cheese with fake bacon (Annie’s), and the process of creating this video was nearly as convoluted and veiny as the general style of this here letter of introduction.”
In a separate blog post, MGMT simply wrote: “No Children Were Harmed In The Making Of This Video. Well, OK, Maybe One.”
There is currently no update as to how the child, who would be around 18 years old today, is doing. However, considering the environment he had during the shooting, he is either doing just fine or as some fans say, he needs some therapy.
