Tim Commerford Makes Controversial ‘Nazi’ Comment About America

In a recent conversation with TotalRock, Tim Commerford made a controversial comment regarding Americans and their role in history.

“Well, I mean I write all the lyrics so a lot of the lyrics, a lot of the songs were written during Covid-19 and I’d never been more focused in my life on geopolitics,” the bassist said when asked about the lyrics in his new band 7D7D. “It’s an addiction almost, it is.”

He continued, “So, right now, we are at the doorstep of World War III, at least the Middle Eastern World War with Iran and I’m very upset as a taxpayer about the amount of money that we are gifting our military every year and last year was almost a trillion, right short of a trillion.”

“This year goes to a trillion and that’s more than every other country in the world combined. I really wholeheartedly believe that America bombed the Nazis into the dirt, and then just took it, rebranded it, red, white and blue. I really believe that,” Commerford explained.

The rocker added, “I tell people, ‘Look, I am a Nazi and so are you.’ If you’re living here and you’re not at the colleges right now, trying to make a difference, you’re one of those people that lived right next door to the concentration camps in World War II and never smelt the dead bodies. That’s who we are.”

7D7D is a power trio with Jonny Polonsky on guitar, Mathias Wakrat on drums, and Commerford, who writes the band’s politically charged lyrics. “I learned from Rage, and from Zach and Tom and Brad, I learned how to be who I am. I was politicised by that,” Commerford previously told Louder about the band’s lyrical and philosophical approach.

He continued, “And one of the things that comes from that is feeling an artistic obligation to say something. I can’t not do that. The songs are all about different issues, and they’re subversive, and twisted, and maybe things that you think are funny in the lyrics, are not.”

Commerford released four singles with 7D7D. In October, the band completed their nine-date European and UK headline tour.
