Unleashed came to Athens on October 7, 2026 for one of the city’s bigger extreme metal nights of the autumn. The Swedish band shared the bill with Mayhem at Gagarin 205, putting Norwegian black metal and Swedish death metal on the same stage. The show was part of the Death Over Europe Part II tour.
The booking traded on history more than novelty. Mayhem brought their ritualistic, atmospheric side and material from Liturgy of Death, while Unleashed answered with a direct, stripped-down death metal set. The date was sold to local fans as a landmark rather than a routine club stop.
Unleashed built their set around the band’s older identity. The clearest moment came when they played Venom’s “Countess Bathory” as a tribute to the late Conrad “Cronos” Lant. It tied Swedish death metal back to the group that helped shape the genre’s first sound.
That tribute is also the best-documented part of the performance. The rest of the set remains less clear: vocal delivery, the balance between new and older songs, and the running order between the two bands. Only the venue, the date and the shared tour framework are firmly in place.
The sound, lighting and stage production are hard to judge from what is on record. What the bill promised from the start was contrast, and it delivered it: Mayhem’s slow, tense atmosphere against Unleashed’s grounded attack.
The night showed what a cross-generational extreme metal bill can still do, placing two historically important Scandinavian acts on one Greek stage. Unleashed’s nod to Cronos said as much about where the band came from as where it stands now.
