In a conversation with The Metal Voice, Within Temptation’s frontwoman Sharon den Adel shed light on the power of metal music in unifying people, including outsiders.

Drawing a comparison between genres, the host Stephane Giroux said that unlike certain genres like country music, which may appeal to a particular demographic, metal seems to have a broader reach. ‘Music is extremely uniting,’ he said, adding that while many genres can bring people together, there’s something special about the metal scene.

Giroux then asked Den Adel if she would’ve dreamed of Within Temptation’s power of uniting people of different nations and different languages around their music. On the feeling of unity in the metal community, the singer touched upon feeling as an ‘outsider’:

“Well, I do agree that music unites, but I think you can also see that in different genres. But I do think what we have in common in the metal scene is maybe being a bit of an outsider. We’re not mainstream, we already chose not to be mainstream in a way.”

She added that this shared love for something not universally popular creates a bond among metal fans:

“We choose not to be also because our heart lies in a different kind of music, of course, and to take that step already is already from a big group of people. So, I guess, in a small way, I think we do know what it is to be an outsider and a bit different, and maybe that unites. I think it’s also the fact that you like this specific kind of thing that a lot of people don’t like. So, I think that unifies. I love that about this scene, that’s like we stand as one, and we’re united. It’s just the scene itself, it’s beautiful.”

Within Temptation’s Recent Projects

Within Temptation’s eighth studio album ‘Bleed Out’ was released on October 20. More recently, just four days ago, the band also shared a new music video for ‘Ritual.’ The video already has over 250,000 views, and you can watch it here.

For fans eager to see Within Temptation live, there’s more in store. The band announced a European ‘Bleed Out’ tour scheduled to begin in April 2024. Kicking off at the Metal Fest Chile, the tour will see the band performing in various countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Czechia, Poland, Denmark, and the UK.
