Mike Shinoda recently spoke with BBC Radio 1 about Linkin Park’s upcoming album, From Zero. He discussed the new song ‘Over Each Other’ and shared details about its creation.

“I think the new record, which is called ‘From Zero,’ in the beginning of the whole process of making the album, we didn’t know what the lineup was gonna be,” Shinoda said. “This song actually got written very early in the process but then very late in the process we jammed with Emily and Colin, our new singer and drummer. By the time we wrote this song we were very tight and we were really enjoying ourselves and having a great time. We kind of redid the song, approached the song and it became one of our favorite songs in the album. I’m excited you’re able to hear it, I’m excited that people see the video. I’m excited for people to hear the album. The first two songs we put out were ‘The Emptiness Machine’ and ‘Heavy Is The Crown,’ this is a less heavy track.”

When asked if it felt strange to record with Emily Armstrong as the new singer, he explained: “No, that was the point. The original demo was all me and then during the process, we played around with different ways of presenting it.”

“Some of the tracks were like, I wrote the demo, they stay very similar to that. Other ones were more of a collaborative process and I think this one fell into that category more. It had its different twists and turns for different friends of ours. At the end of the day, when we did this version of Emily singing all the way down, it felt like this song. It felt the most like what it was supposed to be,” Shinoda added.

The music video for ‘Over Each Other’ was directed by Joe Hahn, who also directed some of the band’s classic videos like ‘Numb,’ ‘From The Inside,’ ‘What I’ve Done,’ and ‘Somewhere I Belong,’ as well as ‘The Emptiness Machine.’ The video was teased on Instagram on October 18, where Hahn posted some behind-the-scenes photos.

“A couple of nights after our show in Seoul, Korea, Emily Armstrong and I stayed in town to shoot our next music video for ‘Over Each Other.’ It has been a dream of mine to direct a project in Korea one day and this happened,” he wrote. “We embraced the K-ness of it all and made it feel like a K-drama. Like always, Emily crushed the performance. I’m looking forward to sharing this with you all next Thursday. Thank you to the cast, Kong Seongha, the crew and the rest of the boys from Linkin Park. From Korea, with [love],” he added.

From Zero will be released on November 15.
