Plague of Angels gave MetalHead Zone an exclusive early release of their new single, ‘Lazarene,’ ahead of its official launch on March 13.

As per MetalHeadZone‘s interview with Mark Mynett, ‘Lazarene’ was originally written by Richard Shaw when he was still part of Cradle of Filth, but the band reworked the verse and chorus to better match their own style.

The song blends multiple elements, including orchestration, harmonized twin guitar melodies, layered choral vocals, and intense death metal vocals. This is the first single to feature Anabelle’s deep growling vocals, which stand right next to her soaring operatic singing.

The band says the song is built around the idea of strength and overcoming challenges. Inspired by the story of Lazarus—who was revived after three days—the band uses it as a metaphor for perseverance.

Mixing and mastering ‘Lazarene’ was a challenge, especially balancing all the layers of sound. Mynett, the band’s guitarist and producer, carefully balanced the mix to ensure clarity. He wanted the orchestration and vocals to stand out without losing the power of the guitars and bass.

A Bold New Sound for Plague of Angels

Compared to their past singles, ‘Lazarene’ takes a different path. It’s more dynamic than ‘Beyond Salvation’ and ‘What Lies Beneath,’ blending styles they haven’t explored as much before. The band says fans can expect more changes in their music as they keep experimenting.

Plague of Angels is also planning for the future. While they are still involved in the ‘Organic Metal – Two Worlds Collide’ project, they are also preparing to release a full album and go on tour. This time, they won’t be using the pipe organ to give them more room to try different sounds. They’re also aiming for a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall, either later this year or next.

‘Lazarene’ marks a new chapter for Plague of Angels, pushing their sound in bold new directions.
