Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French has publicly defended the band’s decision to hire Sebastian Bach as the replacement for original frontman Dee Snider. French addressed concerns from fans who questioned whether Bach could fill the legendary vocalist’s shoes, emphasizing the former Skid Row frontman’s credentials and stage presence.

“Sebastian really is the only person that could do it,” French stated. “He’s the only larger-than-life guy with the chops and the stage presence to do it. I called him and he was enthusiastic about the opportunity, saying ‘Yeah, man, I’d love to.'”

French highlighted the band’s confidence in Bach following extensive rehearsals. The band completed eight hours of rehearsal with Sebastian, and the guitarist expressed complete satisfaction with the results. “He was amazing,” French said. “So I have no doubts how great it’s gonna be.”

The guitarist addressed the broader debate surrounding frontman replacements in legacy rock bands. He drew comparisons to other iconic acts that have successfully navigated similar transitions. Numerous legendary bands have continued touring with new vocalists, and the ultimate measure of success lies with the audience’s reception.

French pointed out that Queen continues to tour with Adam Lambert, who replaced Freddie Mercury. Journey has successfully partnered with Arnel Pineda, who replaced Steve Perry. He noted that Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foreigner are currently touring without any original lineup members. “If you didn’t like the band, don’t go,” French said. “But they are offering a product that is great.”

French emphasized Bach’s qualifications for the role. “We got a guy whose pedigree is metal, by the way, who’s a legitimate artist with platinum records. Not an also-ran. A phenomenally talented human being,” he explained. The guitarist stressed that the band’s approach was pragmatic: deliver the best possible performances and let the public decide whether the collaboration works.

Dee Snider stepped down from Twisted Sister in February 2026 due to severe health challenges. The original frontman faced degenerative arthritis, a hip replacement, a knee injury, and a heart condition that made touring impossible. The announcement came as a significant blow to fans anticipating the band’s 50th anniversary celebration, which had been scheduled for later in the year.

The band’s search for a replacement was resolved within a month. Twisted Sister officially announced Bach as the frontman for select dates in the fall of 2026. Bach brought immediate credibility to the role with his own platinum-selling career and proven track record as a solo artist.

French emphasized that Bach’s involvement would be limited to a select number of shows. The arrangement would not interfere with the vocalist’s existing solo touring commitments, making it a practical solution for both parties. “The beauty of it is you do it, you have fun, you put your best foot forward, you deliver the magic, and everything takes care of itself,” French reflected.

The rescheduled 50th anniversary tour with Bach kicked off on September 4, 2026, at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer, Alaska. This marked the beginning of what the band hoped would be a triumphant celebration of their five decades in rock music. Dee Snider publicly confirmed he gave Bach his blessing for the role, noting that he had no hard feelings about the transition and had made his approval known before the official announcement. This endorsement from the original frontman provided additional validation for Bach’s appointment and helped ease concerns among dedicated fans about the authenticity of the band’s continued legacy.
