Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider recently asserted that every headlining act was scared of playing after his band, defending his live legacy in a series of posts on X.

The exchange began when a fan questioned Twisted Sister’s status as a headlining act and suggested that other bands were not concerned about being outperformed by them. Snider quickly fired back to defend the band’s reputation.

“Dee thinks he’s smarter than he is and that Twisted Sister was bigger than they were,” the fan wrote. “They were huge… But they were openers. I lived through it as well and they were a solid live act but they weren’t blowing anyone off the stage that was headlining.”

Snider responded directly to the post, questioning the fan’s claim. “WTF are you talking about, Willis?” Snider replied. “So Twisted Sister never headlined the hundreds of shows we headlined?”

The fan then clarified their stance, arguing that Twisted Sister did not headline major venues. “I was pointing out what the other person said,” the fan responded. “You headlined clubs but not arenas. Once again TS was a solid live act but I don’t think any band was concerned about being blown away by you.”

Snider concluded the exchange by emphasizing his performance mindset and challenging the fan’s perspective. “What do you make your conclusions on?” Snider wrote. “Every band was concerned because my only mission was to make life difficult for the headliner by lighting up the crowd. If you don’t think I did, YOU should try getting on stage after me.”

This exchange highlights Snider’s ongoing pride in Twisted Sister’s live performances and his willingness to engage with fans online. Let’s see if there are further updates.

Snider’s claim fits the band’s long-standing reputation for turning live shows into a spectacle. The group built its name in the early 1980s with a hard-edged look, loud performances and a stage presence that made them stand out in the metal scene.

Snider joined Twisted Sister in early 1976 and became the band’s sole songwriter, helping shape its sound and image before the group’s breakthrough years.

That history gives added weight to Snider’s remarks about the band’s impact on the road. Twisted Sister spent years grinding through clubs before landing major-label attention, and that long climb helped build a live reputation that made them a difficult act to follow.

Twisted Sister broke through with Stay Hungry, which turned the band into one of the defining acts of the 1980s and helped carry songs like “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock” into heavy rotation.

The band was once playing four gigs a night, six nights a week, and had become the top draw in suburban New York before its national breakthrough.

Snider later moved beyond Twisted Sister into radio, television and acting, but the band’s live legacy stayed central to his image. He is also known for work outside the band, including acting and composing, which expanded his career after the group’s peak years.
