Review Overview

The *uckers played Park West on September 19 as part of Riot Fest’s official late-night lineup. The date mattered most as William Shatner’s first live performance with the band. It doubled as a warm-up for the main festival set the following night.

Riot Fest treated the show as a club-sized companion to the weekend, not a standalone tour stop. Doors opened late, and the gig sat inside the festival’s own aftershow series.

Shatner’s debut with *uckers drew attention well past hardcore and punk crowds. The booking fit Riot Fest’s long habit of putting unexpected names on its stages.

The band used the night to work out its live identity. Shatner’s new heavy metal project played material pulled from classic rock and metal sources, and the set read as a first attempt rather than a road-tested act.

Judged on concept and staging, the performance held its own. It never aimed at the technical standard of a long-running hardcore band.

Curiosity filled the room. A late-night crowd turned out for a booking that mixed punk context with pop-culture spectacle.

The audience skewed mixed in age and responded readily. The night landed as a shared “did that really happen?” moment rather than a standard fan-service set.

Park West sat inside a weekend built on eclecticism, with club shows stretching the festival’s reach past Douglass Park. *uckers matched that approach by pairing a legacy figure with a punk-adjacent room.

For modern metal and punk audiences, the set blurred the line between gimmick, heritage and spectacle. The catalog was never the point. The question was whether a high-concept project could hold a room on Riot Fest’s own terms.

Summary
A debut outing that carried more novelty and theatricality than technical polish, with the room's curiosity doing much of the work. The booking suited Riot Fest's eclectic late-night identity and delivered a genuine event rather than a standard club set. Held back by an unproven live identity and a set drawn from borrowed material, it nonetheless stands as a memorable one-off.
