Three Days Grace’s Adam Gontier recently shared his perspective on life in the United States, describing it as living inside a bubble.
According to Gontier, many Americans rarely consider other countries, including Canada, despite its close proximity. Speaking on the Nik Nocturnal Podcast, he said, “If you live in America, it’s a bubble — nowhere else exists. I haven’t heard about Canada in a year since I’ve been here. Toronto is basically America now, but still, people here forget it’s even there.”
Toronto’s Changing Identity
Gontier also noted that Toronto increasingly feels like part of the U.S. However, he believes it remains invisible to most Americans. “But still,” he added, “it’s like invisible to most people here. I have to check the weather just to remind myself what’s going on back home.”
Gontier’s Departure from Three Days Grace

Gontier was a key member of Three Days Grace until his departure in 2013. He left the band during what he described as a difficult period. He told People that he was struggling with addiction and feeling overwhelmed by years of touring.
The band cited health reasons for his departure at the time, but Gontier revealed that he was sober when he made the decision to leave. He felt stepping away from the music industry was necessary for his well-being.
A New Chapter with Saint Asonia

Gontier focused on his personal life and later became the lead singer of Saint Asonia following his departure. He welcomed his first child in 2017, and he credits this as a turning point in his sobriety journey. “I’ve changed my focus and I’m much more present… that was a big thing that I wasn’t for many years,” he said speaking to People in the same interview.
Now a father of two, Gontier has been sober for seven years.
Reuniting with Three Days Grace
Gontier reconnected with Three Days Grace bassist Brad Walst during the COVID-19 pandemic. This eventually led to an invitation to return to the band as a co-lead singer alongside Matt Walst.
In October 2024, Gontier officially rejoined Three Days Grace. The band released their first single with him back on vocals, ‘Mayday,’ in November 2024, and they are currently working on a new album.
