Queen’s Brian May shared an A.I.-generated photo of the band’s four members on the cover of ‘The Game’ album and warned about the future of A.I. and data centers planned for the U.K., which he believes could damage the country as they have in America.
Brian May: “I just had to share this with you guys. I asked Meta AI to show me what the cover of THE GAME album looked like. This is what it gave me! Good job, eh?”
“So this is the kind of intelligence that will soon be ruling the world??! Well, great. Maybe this is the time to realize that WE ACTUALLY DON’T NEED AI!!!”
“But I’m now very serious. I believe the price we are about to pay for this ‘inevitable’ development is way too high. We must not allow these hideous Data Centres to be built in the UK. They will destroy our beautiful country, like they are already destroying beautiful America. Dear Andy — you must stop it now. Before it’s too late.”
May’s post moved beyond a joke about a botched A.I. image, becoming a wider criticism of the infrastructure he believes could scar the British landscape.
The comment came after May asked Meta AI to recreate the cover of Queen’s 1980 album The Game. The original artwork shows the four band members against a stark black background in a chrome, futuristic style that reflected the record’s blend of classic rock and emerging synthesizer sounds.
In the same appeal, May addressed ‘Andy,’ a reference that appears aimed at Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, who has been involved in local debates over data-centre expansion and the infrastructure needed to support A.I. growth.
