Former Queensrÿche singer Geoff Tate has announced that he is working on the third and final part of the band’s ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ album series.

In a recent interview with Rock Of Nations, Tate shared his plans for ‘Operation: Mindcrime III.’ He said, “I would say it has more of an early Queensrÿche feel,” the singer said of his upcoming work. “[The new songs are] super heavy, and some of ’em are incredibly technical. They’re like algebra. You need a calculator when you’re listening to the song.”

“And, of course, some of them are very emotional. It’s the last chapter in the ‘Mindcrime’ series,” Tate added. “So it’s following the exploits of Dr. X and Nikki and Sister Mary, and picks up at a particular point in their story and kind of does the microscope of what is happening at that particular time with them. And I am just in love with it. I am so happy with everything so far, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Released in 1988, Queensrÿche’s Operation: Mindcrime made the band very popular. The album is a concept album that tells the story of Nikki, a drug addict who gets involved with a dangerous cult led by a man named Dr. X. ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ is considered a classic in progressive metal.

In contrast, the sequel ‘Operation: Mindcrime II’ received mixed reviews. Many fans and critics felt it was unnecessary and took away from the impact of the first album.

Along with the final ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ album, Tate announced that he will also perform the 1988 album live for the last time. The tour is called ‘Geoff Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime: The Final Chapter,’ and it was announced a month ago on Instagram. It will begin in March and April of 2025, with more dates in September and October.
