Ghost frontman Tobias Forge discussed the band’s organizational structure in a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK. He addressed the distinction between Ghost’s public image as a band and its behind-the-scenes operations.
“If you want to be super pragmatic, I’m technically a solo artist,” Forge said. “I don’t have to think in terms of a group, but everybody needs to understand that my job is a group effort.”
“We’re a group working together, but practically, if the label is asking Ghost to make a record, they don’t call a group of people — they will call me because it’s my responsibility,” he continued.
This revelation emerges as Ghost continues to evolve its unique approach to band management and performance structure.
Band Structure And Leadership

Research by uDiscover Music revealed Ghost’s structure as a solo project. The band employs hired musicians for live performances, including the mysterious ‘Nameless Ghouls’ and ‘Ghoulettes’ who maintain their anonymous stage presence.
This arrangement enables Forge to maintain artistic control in the studio. The setup also ensures dynamic live performances with a full band configuration.
Character Evolution

Documentation from Miss Mephistopheles highlighted Forge’s multiple character portrayals. His roles have included Papa Emeritus I, II, III, Papa Nihil, and Cardinal Copia. Each persona marks a distinct era in the band’s evolution.
The theatrical approach has become fundamental to Ghost’s identity. This strategy allows the project to reinvent itself while preserving its core musical vision.
Future Developments

Melodic Magazine confirmed Ghost’s entry into a new era with their upcoming album ‘Skeletá.’ The band will launch a 2025 world tour featuring Forge’s latest incarnation as Papa V Perpetua.
The tour introduces a significant change to the concert experience. Audiences will participate in a phone-free environment through the use of Yondr pouches to enhance live engagement.
