Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch recently posted a message on Instagram directed at his “brothers and sisters in the homosexual community,” expressing solidarity and compassion amid criticism from certain people of faith.
In his post, Welch shared a video showing a man holding a sign that read, “God Hates F*gs.” Responding to the image, Welch wrote in the caption, “The blind leading the blind. This is a perfect example of using ‘faith’ as a weapon for hate. These types of people love tossing around words like ‘antichrist,’ but they’re too blind to recognize they’re describing themselves. GOD IS LOVE.”
He went on to add, “If the motive of any person’s approach isn’t based on love, then they become as meaningless as the hate they preach. To my brothers and sisters in the homosexual community: God obviously values your life as much as anyone else’s on this planet. It’s impossible for him to carry hatred towards you. GOD. IS. LOVE. Which means His heart is always open to you.”
Through the post, Welch addressed the LGBTQ+ community directly, criticizing those who use religion to justify condemnation and reaffirming his support for LGBTQ+ individuals.
Welch’s Christian faith has played a significant role in his life since he stepped away from Korn in 2005 to focus on sobriety and a born-again Christian path. He has spoken candidly about that journey over the years, acknowledging that he may have “gone too far” with religious zeal early on, while emphasizing that his faith today centers on a deeply personal relationship with God rather than dogma.
When it comes to LGBTQ+ issues, Welch has consistently encouraged tolerance among fellow Christians. After meeting transgender fans and praying with them, he has pushed back against judgmental reactions, urging believers to “open their hearts” and move away from harsh interpretations tied to Sodom and Gomorrah, instead stressing empathy, understanding, and compassion over immediate condemnation.
