Mike Portnoy is upset with fans buying up everything in his exclusive merch sale.
The drummer posted on his Instagram story about the two autographed used sticks he recently sold, saying, “EXTREMELY UNCOOL. Somebody was standing by watching for when the sticks would go live and BOUGHT EVERYTHING before I had a chance to go live… Presumably, so he can upcharge and resell on his own!!!!!”
In a follow-up story, Portnoy added, “There are actually 3 people that bought all the sticks before I could post about them… Robert F, Juan S, & Ryan O. You know who you are and that was very uncool… No, I have to spend one of my last days off at home figuring out how to refund their orders, put the sticks back in inventory, and limit future purchases… Thanks guys!!!”
The drummer also shared a screenshot from his merch sale site that said, “Sorry there are no products in this collection.” He wrote, “And they’re all gone again!! Wow. At least we played fair this time… More sticks will be up again after the North American leg.”
Dream Theater, ahead of their upcoming ‘Parasomnia tour,’ recently released the song ‘Midnight Messiah’ from their new album. Portnoy contributed lyrics to the song, marking his first writing for the band since 2009.
“It was great writing lyrics again and contributing this chapter to the Parasomnia story. DT fans may get a kick out of discovering some of the hidden nuggets I planted in the song referencing many of my past DT lyrics…” Portnoy said in a press release.
He added, “And the music video is a great representation of the excitement of the first two tour legs we recently completed throughout Europe and South America. Just in time to prepare for our next leg throughout North America which we are so excited to embark on.”
The album ‘Parasomnia’ is set for release on February 7 via InsideOut. Dream Theater’s North American 40th-anniversary tour will begin on February 7 in Pennsylvania and end on March 22 in New York.
