Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx recently addressed the band’s stance on political and social agendas during a live performance, responding to a broader debate on rock politics, as seen in a fan’s video shared on X.

During the show, Sixx emphasized that the band welcomes fans of all backgrounds and political beliefs, explaining that their music is meant to bring people together.

“It does not matter to Mötley Crüe if you’re a Republican,” Sixx said. “It does not matter to Mötley Crüe if you’re a Democrat.”

He further emphasized the band’s inclusive message to the crowd.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re gay or if you’re straight or if you’re going right down the fucking centre of the lane of life cause we’re all in this together,” Sixx continued. “Can we agree?”

This statement follows recent comments from Metallica frontman James Hetfield during a show at the Sphere in Las Vegas, where he suggested that Metallica avoids using their platform to influence fans politically.

“Unless you live in Vegas, you’ve come a long way to spend some time with Metallica,” Hetfield said. “We’re grateful for that – your travels, the money you spend, the time it took. Thanks for coming to celebrate with us.”

Hetfield went on to contrast his band’s approach with other performers who bring outside issues into their concerts.

“And I just gotta say, Metallica is not here, like some other entertainers, to influence you with their bullshit, OK?” Hetfield added. “We are here, no bullshit. We’re here to forget about all the outside shit, OK?”

The discussion highlights ongoing debates among rock musicians regarding the role of politics and social commentary in live entertainment.

The exchange between the two rock veterans reflects a longer-running conversation about how much politics belongs on a concert stage, and both comments arrived within the same stretch of touring for their respective bands.

Metallica’s “Life Burns Faster” residency at Sphere in Las Vegas opened with shows on October 1 and October 3, 2026, and Hetfield delivered his remarks during the October 10 performance. Hetfield also closed his message by describing what the band does intend to bring to the stage.

“Metallica’s agenda is love, energy and heavy music, baby!” Hetfield said.

Sixx’s message was not his first attempt to separate his personal views from the band’s live show. Coverage of the moment notes that Sixx has previously drawn a line between holding political opinions and using a stage as a platform to spread them. “I’m not a politician, I’m a rock star,” he has said.

Hetfield’s position also sits alongside Metallica’s own catalog, which has long carried political and institutional themes. The band’s 1988 album “…And Justice for All” is frequently read as a critique of corruption, greed and failures in the legal system, while “One” depicts the physical and psychological devastation of war and the treatment of soldiers as expendable. The same outlet reported on Hetfield’s explanation of why Metallica steers clear of politics at their shows.
