Stone Sour has finished “Full Of Empty,” a song that sat incomplete since the band recorded their 2010 album ‘Audio Secrecy.’ The announcement was made on Instagram.
The track remained unfinished from the original writing and recording sessions for ‘Audio Secrecy.’ For this release, the band brought back members from that era to complete the work.
According to Stone Sour’s announcement: “Stone Sour’s ‘Audio Secrecy’ (15th Anniversary Edition) arrives November 20, featuring the previously unreleased ‘Full Of Empty,’ newly recorded by the original album-era lineup with new lyrics and vocals from Corey Taylor + new guitar tracks from Jim Root and Josh Rand.”
“The expanded collection also includes unreleased demos, rough mixes, alternate versions, and a full live performance from the band’s 2010 tour. Available on expanded and remastered 3CD Box Set, exclusive clear smoke 2LP vinyl, standard black vinyl, and digitally.”
The completed song marks a reunion of Stone Sour’s original ‘Audio Secrecy’ lineup for a previously unreleased track.
The 2010 album ‘Audio Secrecy’ was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville with the band’s then-lineup of Corey Taylor, guitarists Jim Root and Josh Rand, bassist Shawn Economaki and drummer Roy Mayorga. Jim Root left Stone Sour at the end of 2013, and in 2015 the band named Christian Martucci as his permanent replacement. In 2020, Taylor announced that Stone Sour had “kinda run its course for now” and the band entered an indefinite hiatus.
Taylor explained the history of the unfinished track: “I remember getting some tracks that I’d forgotten were recorded during the Audio Secrecy sessions—one was ‘Saturday Mourning’, a song I recognized and really enjoyed; the other was the original version of ‘Full of Empty’. But by the time I got around to writing lyrics and melody for it, I was so creatively tapped that understandably we didn’t end up using it.” He continued: “Fast-forward to present day, and when I heard the music again, I got really excited. I hit up everyone about taking another crack at it with a completely new direction and one hour later, the new and improved ‘Full of Empty’ was born”.
Stone Sour’s comeback with this newly recorded material represents a significant moment for the band after years of inactivity. The reunion of Taylor with Root, along with Rand and the other album-era members, reconnects the band with the creative lineup that produced one of their most notable releases.
