Review Overview

Overkill’s June 4 set at Mystic Festival in Gdańsk was one of the more significant stops on their 2026 European run. Sharing a bill with Megadeth and Anthrax, the New Jersey veterans had something to prove — and by most accounts, they delivered.

The band came in as the elder statesmen of the lineup, but nothing about the performance suggested coasting. The set was tight, the energy was high, and the crowd responded accordingly. If anything, Overkill sounded more locked-in than bands half their age.

“Spheres of Madness” was a clear highlight. The rhythm section held firm throughout, and Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth’s vocals carried the kind of force that doesn’t come from nostalgia alone. The band wasn’t playing to their legacy — they were playing to the room.

The crowd made that easy. The pit opened early and didn’t let up. Pyrotechnics added to the spectacle, but the real energy came from the floor. It was the kind of atmosphere that makes a festival slot feel like a headline show.

Production-wise, the stage was well-lit and the sound held up across the venue. Nothing got in the way of the performance. For a festival setting, that’s not always guaranteed — here, it worked.

Summary
Overkill proved they remain a formidable force on the festival circuit, delivering a performance that matched the caliber of their more celebrated peers on the bill. The tightness of execution and crowd engagement made this one of the standout sets of the day. This was thrash metal played with purpose and precision, not merely nostalgia.
