In an interview with Dr. Music, current Bon Jovi guitarist Phil X discussed the band’s decision to continue performing after Richie Sambora’s exit. He addressed his initial role as Sambora’s replacement and explained the transition’s impact on band operations.

“When I said that it was when I was filling in. It kind of bugged me that the headlines were Phil X replaces Richie Sambora,” he explained. “And that’s when I thought that’s not the case here.”

“John’s mentality has always been the show must go on,” Phil X continued. “I think the option to not having somebody fill in at that point was everybody going home and that’s 150 people out of work. That’s fans that go to multiple shows with flights and hotels and saying, ‘Hey, so we’re not doing this anymore.’ You can’t do that.”

His comments illuminate the complex transition period following Sambora’s departure. This marked a significant chapter in Bon Jovi’s history.

From Temporary To Permanent Member

His role transformed over the years. In 2016, he became an official member, reflecting the band’s trust in his abilities and musical contribution.

Collaborative Spirit
