Les Claypool Celebrates New Primus Drummer’s First Performance

Les Claypool, Primus frontman, shared footage from new drummer John Hoffman’s debut performance on his Instagram. The band reached a significant milestone as they introduced their latest member to their fanbase.

“Hoffer’s big debut,” Claypool stated about the performance.

Fans expressed overwhelming support for the new drummer. “He killed it! Loved the feel,” one fan commented. Another attendee shared, “I was there. I was blown away.” A third fan added, “He did so good. Congratulations for you all.”

The debut performance culminated an extensive search for Primus’s new drummer. This milestone marks a new chapter in the band’s storied history.

Early Musical Journey

DrummerWorld highlights Hoffman’s remarkable early start. The Shreveport, Louisiana native first picked up drumsticks at age two.

His passion for music led to his first national tour at age 17. He later established himself with the band Dirtfoot, developing their signature ‘Gypsy Punk Country Grumble Boogie’ style.

Competitive Selection Process

Loudwire documents Hoffman’s victory in an intensely competitive selection process. More than 6,200 drummers submitted applications for the position.

His audition video featured a compelling performance of ‘John the Fisherman.’ This submission caught the band’s attention and led to his selection from nine finalists.
