Sammy Hagar Exposes Van Halen’s ‘Ugly Side’

During a recent interview with Rock Of Nations, Sammy Hagar opened up about the possibility of a Van Halen tribute and exposed the band’s ‘ugly’ side.

It has been three years since the passing away of Eddie Van Halen; however, no tribute show has ever happened. Although there have been talks about it and the tribute has been addressed many times, Hagar thinks that it’s too late for a tribute. Recently, he talked about his disappointments about the band.

Asked whether or not there would be a tribute show soon, he replied:

“As far as the tribute goes, I’m so disappointed how they’ve handled everything, including when I left the band, what they did, and that. I don’t know — the dysfunction in that band… When I was in the band the first nine years, we got along like fricking brothers and sisters and we were happy together and one big family.”

The ‘Ugly’ Reason Van Halen Was Left Without A Tribute

After the passing away of the Van Halen rocker, things took a turn among the rest of the bandmates and eventually, it led to a three-year gap for a possible tribute. Hagar, referring to the incidents as ‘ugly,’ continued with the following:

“Things went wrong. Drugs and alcohol are a bad thing when it turns ugly, and it’s just never been the same. And for them not to have done something for Eddie Van Halen, the greatest guitar player in the world, the greatest rock musician, I’m telling you… It’s ugly, but it’s not my job.”

The Possibility Of A Reunion

Hagar isn’t the only person to think that a reunion show won’t happen. The late guitarist’s son Wolfgang Van Halen also thinks the same way while claiming that Van Halen doesn’t exist anymore as far as he is concerned.

Hagar, as he stated in earlier interviews, is also sure that a tribute will not take place as his bandmate Alex Van Halen will not turn back to his calls and that the thought of a reunion without Eddie Van Halen doesn’t sit right.

So, it’s evident that as long as the talk doesn’t happen between Alex Van Halen and Hagar again, a tribute show is unlikely.
