Acid Bath was a popular sludge metal band from Louisiana. In 1997, the band suddenly broke up after the tragic death of their bassist, Audie Pitre, in a car accident. His passing was a huge loss for the band, and they decided to stop making music together. Here are all the reasons behind Acid Bath’s breakup.
Audie Pitre’s Tragic Car Crash

According to Skeletal Circus, Acid Bath’s career halted abruptly on January 23, 1997, when a catastrophic accident claimed the life of bassist Audie Pitre and his parents.
A drunk driver ran a stop sign and caused the fatal accident that took the lives of Pitre and his parents. Kelly Pitre, Audie’s brother, survived the incident. He had relatively minor injuries, including a broken rib and a mild neck fracture. This tragedy ended Acid Bath’s original run after just two studio albums.
Failed Reunion Attempts and Controversies

There was speculation about a potential Acid Bath reunion in 2014. As reported by Loudwire, drummer Jimmy Kyle reached out to Slipknot’s Corey Taylor. This sparked reunion rumors. Other band members quickly dismissed these possibilities. They firmly stated, “There is no Acid Bath without Audie Pitre, so there will never be ‘new’ Acid Bath material.”
The band members considered performing as an Acid Bath tribute band, but these plans never materialized.
Acid Bath’s 2024-2025 Revival

According to MetalSucks, Acid Bath announced a series of festival appearances for 2025 after 28 years of silence. The initially planned Sick New World festival appearance was canceled. However, the band secured slots at festivals including Sonic Temple in Columbus and Louder Than Life in Louisville. This reunion features original members Riggs, Duet, and Sanchez. They are joined by Zack Simmons of Goatwhore on drums and former Agents of Oblivion bassist Alex Bergeron.
