The Courtney LaPlante-fronted metal band Spiritbox recently announced the release of their highly anticipated new single titled “Mourning,” with the premiere details shared on YouTube.

The band announced the release of the track by sharing the premiere schedule. “Mourning – YouTube premiere 7:00PM PST,” Spiritbox announced.

Following the release, fans shared their reactions to the new song, with many praising the band’s musical direction and versatility. “I don’t even know where to start, this song feels like a breath of fresh air,” one fan commented. “It shows the versatility of this band, their musicianship and talent, the emotion. This is the most important. Their songs make you feel something. Thank you, Spiritbox.”

Other listeners expressed relief that the softer tone of the track did not compromise the band’s signature sound. “I was afraid when people said that this song is softer because in this genre it usually means butt rock,” another fan said. “This song still carries the whole Spiritbox DNA just toned down to portray the feelings. Totally slaps!”

Additionally, fans highlighted Courtney LaPlante’s vocal performance on the track. “Courtney’s voice is honestly unreal,” a fan added. “So beautiful, powerful, and full of emotion. She gives me chills every single time.”

The single is now available for streaming. Spiritbox’s new release also marks the band’s first standalone single since the arrival of their 2025 album Tsunami Sea. The band has not linked “Mourning” to a new album.

The song arrived with an official music video co-directed by guitarist Mike Stringer and Alex Bemis. Stringer’s involvement gives the guitarist a direct creative role in the track’s visual presentation.

Musically, “Mourning” leans into Spiritbox’s more melodic side while retaining the weight and tension associated with the band’s recent material. The release is a softer turn that does not abandon the band’s core identity.

The single also arrives as Spiritbox prepares for its fall headlining tour across Europe and the United Kingdom. Jinjer and Dying Wish are set to join the band on the tour.

The accompanying visual presentation appears to frame “Mourning” as a new chapter following the Tsunami Sea era. The rollout moves from black-and-white teaser imagery into color in the full video.

While discussing Spiritbox’s earlier work on The Fear of Fear, LaPlante described the emotional tension within the band’s writing by saying, “they are both mourning and celebrating that.” The comment was not made specifically about the new single, but it reflects the emotional contrast that has remained central to Spiritbox’s music.
