Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith has opened up about the band’s upcoming feature documentary ‘Burning Ambition.’ Rather than filming traditional on-screen interviews, the band members will surprisingly only be featured as voiceover narrators to guide the story of their phenomenal career.

“Well, right off the bat, it was nothing to do with Iron Maiden,” Smith explained. “The film company approached the management and talked about it. We are not actually in the film being interviewed like this. It’s just our kind of voices on top of the narration, which I think is kind of cool. We haven’t done it before. There’s a few things in there that haven’t been covered.”

Smith also shared his personal experience watching the documentary. He initially expected to feel uncomfortable seeing himself on screen. “It’s lovely to have a document, personally, to look back and have it laid out in the film,” he said. “I thought it’d be uncomfortable for me to watch, because actors and people like that, when they see themselves on a big screen, it’s, like, ‘Oh, my god.’ But I actually quite enjoyed it, and I think the fans are gonna love it.”

The guitarist expressed optimism about the film’s broader appeal beyond the dedicated fanbase. “And maybe even people who don’t really know about Maiden might be interested in it, because it is a phenomenon, what’s happened to us over the years. And it’s been great to be a part of it, a part of the ride, really.”

The documentary represents a significant milestone for one of rock music’s most enduring bands. It offers fans a comprehensive look at their journey while introducing their story to new audiences through a fresh creative lens.

‘Burning Ambition’ spans five decades of the band’s history, according to Iron Maiden’s official website. The documentary charts their remarkable rise from the pubs of East London to the world’s biggest stadiums. Directed by Malcolm Venville, the film provides an electrifying chronicle of one of rock music’s most iconic journeys. This comprehensive scope ensures that the film captures not just the band’s commercial success, but the cultural significance they’ve achieved over their extensive career.

The film’s ambitious timeline reflects Iron Maiden’s unprecedented longevity in the music industry. From their humble beginnings in East London’s pub circuit to headlining massive international venues, the band’s evolution serves as a testament to their artistic integrity and connection with fans worldwide. The official documentation emphasizes how the documentary explores the band’s cultural impact. It also examines the challenges they’ve overcome throughout their five-decade existence.
