Iron Maiden’s frontman Bruce Dickinson shared insights about his cancer treatment period in an interview with Music Radar. He revealed his thoughts about potentially leaving the band if his voice didn’t recover after treatment.

“I felt good. I believed I was going to come through fairly strongly. It was going to be a hard ten months, but at the end of that, I thought – I hoped – I should be able to do what I’d done before,” Dickinson said. “But if not, I was quite prepared to leave – because if you can’t sing like you should be able to sing, that’s it.”

“I had the conversation with the guys [in the band],” he continued. “I said, ‘I do not want to go out and be a sad parody of myself.’ And the band don’t deserve it either.”

“So I’m thinking: if I lost that voice, I could figure out something else to do,” Dickinson explained. “I don’t know what, but I’d have to take a positive spin on it. But there’s no way I would persist in saying, ‘Oh, no, I can do it’, when manifestly I couldn’t. That would not be fair to anybody.”

Dickinson’s honest statement about potentially leaving Iron Maiden emerges years after his successful cancer battle. This experience transformed both his personal and professional life.

Loudwire reports that Dickinson endured 33 radiation sessions. He also completed nine weeks of chemotherapy to fight tumors in his throat and lymph node.

The Iron Maiden frontman received his cancer-free declaration in May 2015. This milestone enabled his triumphant return to his musical career.

The life-altering journey inspired him to explore new ventures. He maintained his dedication to Iron Maiden while demonstrating remarkable resilience.

Career Renaissance

Blabbermouth highlights Dickinson’s successful post-recovery period with Iron Maiden. He has also pursued various solo projects during this time.

His commitment to excellence shows through his principled stance. He would rather step away than compromise his performance quality. This dedication has reinforced his status as one of metal’s most respected vocalists.
