Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini recently spoke out on Instagram about ongoing issues with his social media security. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to regain control of his hacked Facebook account, he ultimately chose to delete the page altogether.
Mangini described the aggravation he faced as hackers continuously regained access, driven by the chance to profit from his posts. “We deleted my Facebook page. Unreal. The same team of hackers kept getting in. Their motivation was making money off of my stories, which is why they posted so many of them (what I referred to as ‘saints’). They can take my Facebook page but they cannot take my humor,” Mangini said.
He also noted that the hackers might try to bring the deleted page back online, and that he had been advised to remove a video he posted in response to the incident. “I was advised to remove the video I put up after this. It’s possible that hackers resurrect the page to start the nonsense all over again. There is a move that can stop all this but I have to wait. The same team of hackers kept getting access,” he continued.
The situation marks a major cybersecurity problem for the longtime musician. According to Metalhead Zone, Mangini’s Facebook account suffered a serious breach in 2025, during which inappropriate images were uploaded without his approval. This unauthorized activity prompted him to act quickly to protect both his own reputation and that of his audience.
Mangini addressed the issue publicly right away, releasing an urgent message warning fans about the hack and clarifying that the posts were not his, a moment later documented on YouTube. His transparency helped reduce confusion among followers about the compromised account. The choice to permanently remove the page underscores how severe the breach was and how limited Facebook’s recovery tools proved to be. Rather than risk further misuse, Mangini opted to eliminate the account entirely. Metalhead Zone later noted that although he took further precautions to protect his online presence, deletion ultimately became the most reliable solution.
This episode sheds light on the ongoing cybersecurity risks that public figures frequently face on major social platforms. Even with built-in protections, persistent hackers can find ways to infiltrate high-profile accounts. Mangini’s experience serves as a reminder to celebrities and public personalities of the importance of strong security practices—and shows how sometimes starting over is the safest path forward.
