A legal document shared on Mitch Lafon’s Facebook page revealed internal tensions within REO Speedwagon. Bruce Hall approved the document, which shows the band ceased touring activities after 2024 due to control disagreements.
The document showed a letter sent by Kevin Cronin’s representatives, and stated, “Although we have our call in a few minutes, Shareholder 1 has just informed me that, given all that has transpired since you and I began discussing these band issues nearly 3 months ago, he feels, despite all our best efforts, that we’ve just reached an impasse between Shareholder 1 and the other two guys.” The legal correspondence continues, “In short, Shareholder 1’s just not willing to be the frontman of a performing group where he doesn’t effectively have a final say over its public presentation.”
“It doesn’t have to be the only say, but he has to be able to veto anything that he sincerely believes doesn’t live up to the standards he has always maintained for this group over forty successful years as their primary artistic director,” the document continues. “So he’s authorized me to tell you that 2024 will be the last year of touring as Shareholder 1, due to these irreconcilable differences, will withdraw from rendering further ‘Touring Activities with the Group’ effective January 1, 2025.”
This development reveals more details about the band’s internal dynamics that led to their decision to end touring.
