Sammy Hagar has shared his plans to support those affected by the devastating California wildfires, making it clear that his efforts will go beyond simply donating money.
The rocker recently shared his thoughts on the fires while paying tribute to the late Sam Moore, known for his work as the original ‘Soul Man.’ Hagar wrote on social media, “I know there’s so much heartbreak and devastation going on in southern California right now, but I have to share the passing of Sam Moore. The original soul man has left us to join his many brothers and sisters in the afterlife,” he wrote in the caption of his post.
Reflecting on his time with Moore, Hagar continued, “This once in a lifetime experience I had rehearsing in Las Vegas for the wonderful Cleveland Clinic Nevada & Keep Memory Alive event is one of the highlights of my musical collaborations. Here in his mid 80s that voice, that voice, that voice. rest in peace, soul, brother. Love and prayers to Joyce and the family.”
After a follower suggested he donate money to help those affected by the fires, Hagar replied, “I will do much more than that. Coming up.”
The wildfires in California have already caused significant destruction. Reports indicate that at least 16 lives have been lost, 13 people are missing, and over 12,000 structures have been damaged. Some well-known musicians, including Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine and Larry LaLonde of Primus, have also been personally impacted.
Wilk shared his experience of evacuating his home on Instagram, saying, “Thanks to everyone reaching out. We are good, but had to evacuate last night. Hosed down the house and grabbed the humans and animals and split…. Oh, I did grab one thing from the house… this VH ‘Woman And Children First’ o.g. tee… very apropos. Everybody please be careful and stay safe.”
LaLonde also reflected on losing his home. “Well, we were bouncing around different ideas to remodel our home, but ultimately the Palisades fire decided on a more ‘open’ floor plan. My mind is still trying to convince me this whole thing is real. As the losses in this fire trickle into my brain, it feels like being hit with a bag of rocks over and over, but the people around us make me feel like the luckiest mother f*cker on the planet.”
To help residents stay safe, CalFire has released an Evacuation Guide. The guide offers advice on preparing for evacuations, dealing with power outages, and ensuring animal safety during emergencies. It also provides critical instructions for situations where evacuation might not be possible.
As California faces the ongoing challenges of the wildfires, the efforts of individuals like Hagar and the resilience of affected communities continue to highlight the importance of unity and preparation during these difficult times.
