British extreme metal legends Cradle of Filth have announced their withdrawal from this year’s Brutal Assault Festival in the Czech Republic. The band issued a statement to their Czech fanbase expressing regret over the decision: “Hello to all the Czech Filthlings. Due to circumstances very much out of our control we will be moving our appearance at Brutal Assault to another year. Thank you for understanding.”
The withdrawal marks a significant change to the festival’s lineup. Brutal Assault takes place August 5-8, 2026, at the historic Josefov Fortress in Jaroměř. Festival organizers confirmed the cancellation on July 19, 2026, citing technical reasons as the cause for the band’s inability to perform. The festival’s official statement reflected the unexpected nature of the change, noting that “last-minute plans crumble to make room for something even darker.”
Rather than leaving the slot vacant, Brutal Assault moved swiftly to secure a replacement act. Norwegian black metal pioneers Satyricon stepped in to fill the void left by Cradle of Filth’s departure. Festival organizers described the substitution as bringing “icy north” energy to replace the British gothic theater that Cradle of Filth would have provided. The festival’s artistic vision remained intact despite the late-stage change.
This is not the first lineup adjustment for Brutal Assault 2026. Earlier in July, the festival announced that metalcore act KMFDM and death metal band Devourment would also be unable to participate. Their withdrawals were attributed to health-related reasons rather than technical issues. These changes underscore the unpredictable nature of festival planning, where circumstances beyond organizers’ control can necessitate rapid adjustments to carefully curated lineups.
Cradle of Filth’s commitment to rescheduling their appearance for a future year demonstrates the band’s dedication to their Czech fanbase.
