Former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo discussed the Misfits’ musical influence in a recent interview with David Ellefson. The veteran drummer has been performing with the Misfits and shared his perspective on the band’s songwriting approach and its impact on metal music.

“But as I started learning the songs, their [Misfits’] old catalog — all their original catalog — I was blown away at how amazing the songwriting and the lyrics and the structure were,” Lombardo said. “Simple. Very simple. Straight to the point song structure.”

“And I could see how influential they were, you know, to metal and obviously to Metallica and to a lot of, you know, rock and metal bands,” he continued.

Lombardo’s observations demonstrate the Misfits’ significant impact on the metal genre. Bands like Metallica have frequently acknowledged this influence in their work.
