Erik Grönwall Addresses Judas Priest Cover Comparisons With Rob Halford

Erik Grönwall reveiwed his cover of Judas Priest’s ‘Painkiller’ in a new video on YouTube.

Responding to comments suggesting that his version was superior to the original by Rob Halford, Grönwall stated, “This, I don’t get. When people say it’s better than the original, I don’t get it. I, of course, appreciate it, but to me, the original is always the original, and you can never beat an original. In my opinion. But I, of course, like when you guys like it that much.”

Grönwall’s cover, released in January of last year, featured Erik Modin on drums and Love Magnusson on lead guitar. The track was produced, mixed, and mastered by Jona Tee and came out after Grönwall’s debut album with Skid Row, ‘The Gang is All Here.’

Talking about joining Skid Row and replacing ZP Theart, Grönwall mentioned on The Rock N’ Roll & Coffee Shop, “There’s so many different types of fans. I’ve realized that… ’Cause when we did the show in California, [some] people came up to me after the show, and they were, like, ‘Sebastian [Bach], you’ve still got it.’ [Laughs] Yeah, that happened. Then you have the fans who still think that Sebastian is in the band, and then you have the fans who know the whole story.”

This sixth studio album with Skid Row was Grönwall’s only one, as he departed earlier this year due to health issues. He had previously been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and underwent bone marrow surgery for treatment.

Grönwall is now preparing for a 2025 tour with Michael Schenker to promote Schenker’s upcoming album, ‘My Years With UFO.’
