Journey fans are demanding that Steve Perry lookalike and soundalike Hugo Valenti replace current singer Arnel Pineda. This demand follows a surprise performance with the band in Japan, which was captured in a fan’s video shared on YouTube.

During the concert in Tokyo, Journey invited Valenti to join them on stage. The performance sparked widespread reactions from fans, especially following Pineda’s previous statements about not wanting to tour with the band.

The fan who shared the video highlighted Valenti’s performance in the caption. “Hugo stays for another song,” the fan wrote. “Keep on Runnin’ with Journey in Tokyo Japan.”

Other fans quickly joined in, expressing their enthusiasm for Valenti to join the band permanently. “Go Hugo! It’s about time you played with Journey,” one fan commented. “Make it a full-time gig!”

Another fan suggested a potential new project for the singer. “The singer for the new band Journey Beyond,” they said. Another fan compared the experience of seeing the band with Pineda versus Valenti. “Saw them this year with Arnel,” the fan said. “I’d go again if they bought Hugo.”

The unexpected collaboration in Tokyo has reignited intense discussions about the future of Journey’s lead vocals. Valenti is not a stranger to the band’s catalog. He has spent years channeling the signature style of the group’s classic era.

Valenti’s voice is remarkably similar to Steve Perry’s. He even auditioned to replace the legendary singer in the past. He has built a strong reputation in the rock community by fronting tribute acts that celebrate Journey’s classic hits.

Valenti was the longtime frontman of the tribute band Voyage, which sold out venues nationwide. He now leads his own project, Hugo – The Ultimate Journey Tribute. This project emphasizes his uncanny physical and vocal resemblance to Perry.

Meanwhile, Arnel Pineda has recently hinted at a potential departure from the touring lifestyle. Pineda shared a message on social media addressing his future.

“I just wanna urge you respect my privacy as I navigate a new chapter in my life,” Pineda wrote.

The 58-year-old singer has struggled with the physical demands of touring. His aging body and deteriorating voice have pushed him to consider retirement. Pineda previously admitted that his body has changed and he can no longer tolerate cold weather during tours.

Journey’s current lineup consists of Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Arnel Pineda, Jason Derlatka, Deen Castronovo, and Todd Jensen. The band has been preparing for the final legs of what could be their last major tour together. This leaves fans to wonder if Valenti’s surprise appearances in Japan might lead to a more permanent role.
