King Diamond has announced a significant lineup change after four decades of partnership. Guitarist Andy La Rocque has departed from the band. The split was mutual and amicable. The band released a statement expressing gratitude for their shared history: “After 40 years King Diamond the band and Andy La Rocque have mutually decided to part ways. Looking back, we do so with nothing but pride, gratitude, and respect for everything we have achieved together.”

The announcement emphasized the enduring respect between the parties. “All the countless memories we have created along the way are forever. Our friendship and respect for each other will always remain the same, and we all sincerely wish each other the absolute best for the future!” the statement continued.

King Diamond welcomed Gus G. as La Rocque’s replacement. Gus G. is known for his work with Firewind and his tenure as Ozzy Osbourne’s lead guitarist from 2009 to 2017. King Diamond expressed enthusiasm about the new direction: “It’s a Big Honor for me to Welcome Gus G. as our new guitarist, who will compose with us, record with us and tour with us in the future.”

The transition marks a pivotal moment in the band’s history. The announcement suggests continuity in creative ambition. Gus G. will maintain his involvement with his other projects while dedicating himself to King Diamond’s future endeavors. There will be no restrictions on his other commitments, only careful planning to ensure his availability for composition, recording, and touring.

La Rocque’s departure comes as he has been channeling creative energy into other ventures. In early 2026, he became involved with Lex Legion, a supergroup featuring four-fifths of King Diamond’s classic late 1980s lineup. The group includes drummer Mikkey Dee, bassist Hal Patino, and vocalist Pete Blakk. This project released its debut single “Sleep Eternally” and dropped its full-length album in June 2026. La Rocque is now exploring a different musical direction while maintaining connections to his classic era collaborators.

King Diamond’s commitment to new material remains evident. The band had previously expressed optimism about releasing a new studio album in 2026. The first installment is titled “Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920” and was scheduled for possible release that year. Gus G. is now positioned as a key creative force in shaping the band’s upcoming sound.

King Diamond’s decision to bring in Gus G. represents a strategic move to inject fresh creative energy while maintaining the band’s legacy. Gus G. brings technical prowess and a proven track record in high-profile metal projects. With decades of experience in both Firewind and his work with Ozzy Osbourne, he is well-positioned for this role. The band expressed genuine excitement about the collaboration: “We are already working with Gus and I simply can’t wait for you to hear all the new King Diamond music with him playing guitar on it!!!”
