Savatage drummer Jeff Plate has addressed speculation about the band’s future touring plans in a recent interview with Sea Of Tranquility. The veteran metal band has maintained a limited performance schedule in recent years. They may be planning a return to U.S. stages.
‘I wouldn’t expect it this year,’ Plate said. ‘But I certainly think 2026 is a possibility.’
‘And once we get out there and play, this is gonna create a little bit more interest,’ he added.
The band performed their last major show at Wacken Open Air in 2015. Recent developments now suggest a significant revival of activity for the legendary metal outfit.
Upcoming Shows and Lineup
According to Metal Gigs US, Savatage has announced their first headlining shows in over two decades for 2025. The lineup features Johnny Lee Middleton, Chris Caffery, Al Pitrelli, Jeff Plate, and Zak Stevens.
The band will return to live performances with confirmed dates at prestigious festivals. Shows are scheduled in Brazil, Chile, Germany, the UK, Switzerland, and Spain. This marks their most extensive touring schedule in years.
Jon Oliva’s Current Role
Reports from Metal Gigs US indicate that founding member Jon Oliva faces health challenges. These include multiple sclerosis and Ménière’s disease. He continues to contribute to the band’s creative process.
Oliva cannot perform live. However, he remains actively involved in the band’s studio work. This demonstrates the group’s commitment to maintaining their musical legacy while adapting to current circumstances.
New Album Development
The potential U.S. tour news coincides with another development. Sources confirm that Savatage is working on their first studio album in more than two decades. The album is tentatively titled ‘Curtain Call.’
The new album’s release is targeted for 2025 or 2026. This represents another significant milestone in the band’s revival. The timing could align with the discussed U.S. tour plans, suggesting a comprehensive return to full-scale activity.
