Jen Keenan, the wife of Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, recently marked her five-year milestone of being cancer-free, sharing a heartfelt message to her husband on Instagram.
In her post, she reflected on her journey of beating breast cancer and expressed her gratitude for the support she received during this challenging period.
“Today is my 5 year milestone beating breast cancer,” Jen Keenan said. “It’s taken me that long to love this photo. As the medicines and Dr visits start to diminish maybe I’ll stop counting but I’ll never stop reliving that abstruse feeling and elation on this day.”
She also remembered others who have been affected by the disease and paid tribute to those who are no longer here.
“My heart will always goes out to those in the trenches and loved ones left behind,” she continued. “Miss you Jan, Jackie, Soren, Ray, Wendy and so many more.”
Finally, she expressed her deep appreciation for her husband’s unwavering support throughout her battle.
“I love you, Maynard, for supporting me through all of that and beyond,” she added.
The milestone adds a personal note to a couple whose relationship has also been shaped by shared work, family life and Keenan’s long career in music.
Maynard James and Jen Keenan met through work sometime in 2003 or 2004, and the two have remained together while co-owning and operating Cottonwood’s Queen B Vinyl Café. Their shared love for the food and beverage industry has kept them closely connected through the decades, giving added context to Jen’s message of gratitude.
Jen has also been involved in Keenan’s business ventures, and the normally private frontman previously opened up about her cancer battle in an August 2021 Instagram post commemorating her birthday, calling her his “all,” his “rock” and his “muse.” That tribute underscored how central the relationship has been through her treatment and recovery.
Keenan’s day job has remained busy as Tool continues to stay active on the road. The band hit the road in late 2025 with shows stretching across the U.S. and Canada, wrapping up with two nights in Toronto during November’s final days. Setlists included rarities and a version of Black Sabbath’s “Hand Of Doom,” while Keenan’s other project, Puscifer, released Normal Isn’t in February 2026.
The group has also been working toward new material, with Keenan stating in September 2025 that the band’s plans for 2026 would be “Writing, I guess.” Guitarist Adam Jones added that “We want to get another record out and play, do what we do. I think we’re going to dive deep soon.”
The past year has brought physical setbacks as well. Keenan revealed in late August 2026 that he had undergone hip replacement surgery after suffering an unexplained hip injury during A Perfect Circle’s European and U.K. tour, and he vowed to tour with Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer this year. He was back on stage at Riot Fest on September 19, 2026, where he told the crowd, “If you’re wondering why I’m hobbling like a granny,” and delivered an “ear-blistering performance” despite his recent recovery.
Jen Keenan’s own public comments on her cancer journey have remained rare, making the five-year milestone post a notable exception and a reminder of the support she has credited to her husband.
