John Corabi Says He Worked With Mick Mars As A Favor To Save His Record Label

In a new interview with Total Rock, former Mötley Crüe rocker John Corabi reflected on working with Mick Mars to save his record label.

“He had trademarked his record label, it is called 1313 Records,” he said. “When you trademark something, even if you pay you fill out the paperwork, all the stuff, you have six months or a year or 18 months you have to do something. So he contacted me, I don’t know what the laws are in America, but when he asked me to do those songs.”

“It was basically like, ‘Hey Corabi, do me a favor. I got these two tunes, my trademarks are about the expire if I don’t do something. I love these two songs, but I’m not crazy about how they turned out. I would love for you to sing them,'” Corabi recalled Mars’ words. “So I just say, ‘Yes sure buddy.’ I went into the studio with him, we hung out for a couple of days, and I just sang the two songs, and I think I think what he had to do was some sort of public statement, so he just did a video, and he put some music out there, and it was like a coming soon thing. Everybody went crazy like, ‘Oh my God, Corabi and Mars are working together.'”

The rockers recorded two songs together back in 2016 — ‘Gimme Blood’ and ‘Shake The Cage.’ It has been eight years since the release of the songs, and now, Corabi wants to record a blues album with Mars.

“I told Mick, I said, ‘Dude, if you ever wanna write, man, f*cking count me in,'” Corabi said of a possible new project during another interview. “I’ve been trying to talk him into doing something a little left of what he did, which is… Anybody that knows Mick Mars knows that he’s a blues guy. He grew up on Jeff Beck, John Mayall, Leslie West, Jimmy Page, all this cool sh*t.”

“So I was trying to get him to just, ‘Let’s sit down and write a record of riffs, like, for example, ‘Never In My Life’ by Mountain.’ I go, ‘Dude, your tone, those kind of riffs, and I’ll sing on it and we’ll just do a really heavy blues record.’ And he seemed like he was into it. But who knows? We’ll see [if we get] to it. I’m just happy that Mick put his record out. I’m sorry he’s going through all this sh*t with the band. But hopefully they’ll figure it all out,” the rocker added.

Mick Mars released his solo album ‘The Other Side Of Mars’ on February 23 this year. Even though he worked with Corabi earlier, the rocker admitted that it was the right decision to not have Corabi sing on the album. Mars worked with names like Paul Taylor, Korn drummer Ray Luzier, and Brion Gamboa.
