Doro Pesch said that health problems affecting people in her circle have motivated her to stay fit and continue performing for as long as possible, she told The Metal Voice.
The German metal singer reflected on how witnessing illness and injuries among those around her has shaped her approach to her career and wellbeing. She emphasized the importance of maintaining good health and staying active.
“I wanna die on stage,” Pesch said. “It’s up to God, whenever He wants me. I do it like [late Motörhead icon] Lemmy, to the last day. I don’t ever wanna quit. And as long as you feel healthy — that’s the only thing. You need to stay in good shape and healthy. That sometimes can hit you one day or the other.”
Pesch then described a specific example from her professional life. “My favorite engineer, I worked with him the last 12 years, and suddenly he has a real big [health] problem. And his wife just called me, and she said, ‘Doro, you can’t work anymore with him.’ And he was a boxer and a great tennis player, and he was totally active.”
The rapid change in her engineer’s health had a strong impact on her perspective. “And, yeah, and it happened very quick that everything changed,” she added. “And I hope he will get back to normal, but I don’t know. So, yeah, so many people around me I felt, like, oh my God, are getting sick. So I wanna try my best to stay [healthy and active].”
Pesch made these remarks during a conversation about her commitment to her music and her life as a performer. The health struggles of those around her serve as a daily reminder of why she prioritizes her own physical condition.
Pesch’s dedication to staying healthy extends into her everyday life and professional routine. She maintains a rigorous fitness regimen that includes Thai boxing, jogging, and gym workouts, along with martial arts training such as escrima. She also follows a vegan diet and avoids smoking, lifestyle choices she believes have kept her in peak condition throughout her career.
In an August 2026 interview, Pesch reflected on how her decades-long commitment to heavy metal has actually kept her healthier than she was during the 1980s. After more than four decades in the industry, the former Warlock frontwoman remains focused on performing for as long as her health permits, viewing her physical wellbeing as essential to continuing her career.
Pesch’s commitment to fitness has proven timely as she moves forward with her professional plans. In December 2026, she will release “Wild At Heart,” a special album that launched alongside her “Magic Winter” tour, featuring new tracks written in recent weeks designed to work both on the album and in live performances.
