Slipknot recently introduced a new ‘S’ logo on limited-edition merch, and fan reactions have mostly been negative. Corey Taylor and the band shared the new designs on social media, featuring T-shirts, tank tops, and long sleeves with the updated logo. This new logo has a smoother shape compared to Joey Jordison’s original version.
The fresh take on the classic ‘S’ logo has split fans. Many shared their disappointment and said they preferred the original look.
One fan commented, “These all look like bad bootlegs.” Another added, “The s on the first one is complete ass guys.”
Another fan said, “The one and only one ‘SLIPKNOT’ symbol, that Originally, Defines, Represents, and Is ‘SLIPKNOT’ was the original one, produced by Joey. I understand how things go sometimes, but that’s taking it way far from Authenticity. the new ‘S’ looks like something a five year old drew for a Chinese food menu. What??? the original is tight in every way. the new, is just not as good or better than the original ‘S’, man, c’mon.”
On the product page of Slipknot’s merch site, the new logo is called a ‘Ritual S.’ However, some other items in the collection still feature the tribal ‘S’ on the sleeves.
Fans on Reddit also criticized the new design. One said, “What in the actual f*ck is this horse sh*t? I have the original tattooed on my arm, this feels like an insult if it’s actually being marketed as the new logo.” Another commented, “Keep the classic tribal forever. Joey’s original creation. This looks like a child’s interpretation.”
Another fan added, “Unpopular opinion: I think it’s perfect for the current iteration of the band. A shell of what it once was but somehow still the ‘Knot.'”
Slipknot’s late drummer and founding member Joey Jordison created the iconic tribal ‘S’ on his dad’s desk. He told Kerrang! that the design meant so much to the band that several members got it tattooed even before they were signed.
The new merch is available on Slipknot’s online platform, ‘The Portal,’ and is described as ‘extremely limited’ with no plans for reprints.
