Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme On Dealing With Grief And Disbelief

In a new video shared by Kyle Meredith, Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme opened up about grief and disbelief.

Homme lost his family and friends, sending him into ‘self-imposed exile.’ After not being able to make music for a long time with the loss of his friends, Mark Lanegan and Taylor Hawkins, the band dropped their latest release, ‘In Times New Roman…’ in June.

Through loss and grief, Homme continued to express himself through music. The rocker revealed what he has been trying to avoid not letting pain take over his life:

“Oftentimes, you feel like the world’s against you. That’s not the case. The world is pursuing its own best interests, and often times the world’s best interest is perpendicular to you and every once in a while it’s a game of chicken. This is what I’ve tried to avoid my whole life, this game of chicken. In the moments of profound loss, confusion, disbelief, love, happiness, joy and appreciation.”

Touching on how he deals with the pain and grief, he added:

“Every once in a while, you have a moment where you’re like, ‘I’ll f*cking fight you right now,’ and someone says, ‘You’re going to lose.’ You’re like, ‘What does that have to do with it? I’m going to bite your f*cking ear off. I’ll leave you forever changed.’ I romanticize these moments. These are ideals, these are moments where they don’t define your character, they reveal it.”

In addition to his loss of friends, the frontman has battled to have custody of his children after his divorce from his former wife. After overcoming many obstacles in his life, the rocker managed to get back to the studio to record their latest record, in which he expressed his pain through the music and the lyrics.
