Anders Colsefni recently discussed whether Mushroomhead took Slipknot’s look without permission of the band while speaking to the Everblack podcast.

Now, Slipknot’s masks are surely one of the first things that comes to mind when someone mentions the band, so when the host asked Colsefni if Mushroomhead, who also wears masks, might’ve stolen the ‘look’ from them, the former member spoke up about his initial reaction to their ‘rival’ band:

“The first time I saw Mushroomhead, I was in [my post-Slipknot band] Painface and we were in Chicago, Illinois playing a show, and somebody brought a magazine over. He goes, ‘Look at this.’ And I’m looking at it. I’m, like, ‘The bass player has a pig mask. Those f*ckers copied me.”

He further added, saying why seeing Mushroomhead was ‘weird:

“‘Cause I picked out the pig mask for Paul [Gray, original Slipknot bassist] because he was too lazy to go there and get it… Paul, you know this. So, I just ran into the theatrical shop and grabbed the first thing I saw I was, like, ‘Oh, a pig mask. That’ll work.’ I threw a padlock in the nose and gave it to him… So, it [seeing Mushroomhead] was a really weird thing.”

However, it seems that even if there was a ‘rivalry,’ it’s now over, or at least for Colsefni, as he’s on tour with Mushroomhead vocalist Waylon Reavis. So, when asked what Reavis thought about the ‘mask controversy,’ former Slipknot member stated:

“Waylon and I have determined that it must have been just we were all influenced by the same sh*t being we were all in farmlands.”
