Sammy Hagar has addressed recent speculation about Richie Sambora’s performance of “Livin’ on a Prayer” in a comment exchange on his Instagram. Fan debate sparked after Sambora made a surprise appearance at the Rock For Responders concert, where his performance and beverage consumption drew attention.

A fan commented on Hagar’s post: “Watching his performance of ‘Living on a Prayer’ from the other night, it’s clear he’s off the wagon. I don’t blame Jon for not wanting to bring him back.”

“No, he was not drinking anymore than that shit from my glass,” Hagar responded firmly. “I was with him all night. He’s fucking great always has been and always will be. That performance wasn’t even planned and wasn’t rehearsed. He just jumped up and did it that’s real.”

The impromptu performance highlighted Sambora’s ongoing connection to Bon Jovi’s legacy since his departure from the band.

According to KSHE95, the performance featured Sambora alongside Phil X, Bon Jovi’s guitarist since 2016. This unexpected collaboration demonstrated professional respect between the current and former band members.

Sambora’s ability to deliver the band’s classic material without preparation showcased his deep familiarity with the songs he helped create.

Bandsintown reports that Sambora’s distinctive guitar technique remains a defining element of Bon Jovi’s classic sound. His use of palm muting and talkbox effects stood out in his recent performance of “Livin’ on a Prayer.”

His technical prowess and authentic delivery continue to resonate with audiences. His contribution to the band’s sound maintains its influence years after his departure.
